PAIGNTON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
Cairn Terriers – Sunday, 29th June
2003
An excellent
show in every respect. The weather remained fine and warm and although humid
was not too troubling for most dogs. The overall quality of the exhibits was
good.
It was most rewarding
to see the numbers and depth of quality in the senior dog classes and the bitch
classes. The puppy bitches were delightful and there were some promising
prospects.
Movement was
varied – some knitting at the front, some with hocks that almost touched and
some that simply lacked drive. Coats in most cases were of good texture but I
have just one request – please take the time and trouble to make sure your dog
is clean before presentation!
MPD (2,0 abs)
Two very similar puppies.
1 Firth & Jones CAIRNGOLD CONMAN cream with
lovely dark points, dark eyes, correct shape, well bodied, good topline held on
the move, straight front and sound movement.
2
Shannon & Storr BRENNDARCY MICKEY FINN cream, with similar qualities and
features as 1 but less mature.
PD (1,1) Absent
JD (5,1)
1 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE RUSTY LEAF cream,
quality coat, level topline, well boned, good mouth, correct bite and reach of
neck won on movement
2
Harrison & Formosa CARRADINE PENFOLD mischievous dog with good topline,
lovely eyes, stop, coat and good on the move
3
Smee OUDENARDE I’M ALRIGHT JACK
ND No entries
PGD (8,1)
This was a very good class.
1 Templeton LARCHLEA IF LOOKS COULD KILL
masculine, grey dog of substance with good bone, excelled in head,
conformation, eye and expression. Moved correctly with the required drive.
Serious contender for the top awards.
2
Birch KINKIM WATTLUQ a dog of superb quality, type and construction. Smaller
than 1 but so well put together. Moved well but for me just lacked the sparkle
of the winner.
3
Roberts CANNWOOD AUGUREY
LD (6,2)
Another class of outstanding dogs
1 Braybrook CLOVERBROOK LOADED DICE RCC This dog
never let up. An upstanding, balanced, grey brindle with wonderful head, stop,
eye and expression, in full coat and moved true and with drive. Quality dog.
2 Weinberger CORRENIE ALTISSIMO light grey
brindle, balanced, but longer in the back than 1, lovely eye, correct
expression, moved very well, less extrovert
than the winner
OD (6,0)
This class was a real treat.
1 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE TIDY SHOES CC &
BOB This dark, good coated grey fits the standard to a tee – not too big,
nothing exaggerated, medium in everything and everything where it should be.
Lovely head and alert expression, used his ears well, good bend of stifle,
drove effortlessly from the rear. Moved true in both directions, and retained
his topline.
2
Birch KINKIM KENZA RUFFN TOO a top quality grey brindle of excellent type with
good eye, big teeth (so rare these days) quality coat, topline and reach of
neck. Moved well both front and rear
3
Wall CH SHEARWATER CAE DE SONHAS
MPB (11,0)
Somewhat
spoilt for choice.
1 Dolan GLENROOD MAGIC SOLITAIRE BP What a little
star and what a scene-stealer! Dark grey brindle baby with a lovely shape, outline
neck, head and expression. She moved with purpose and nothing seemed to faze
her. I wish her well.
2
Firth & Jones CAIRNGOLD CEDAR Dark red brindle, in good coat, liked her
balance, overall shape, reach of neck, head and movement
3
Shopland CHERRYCRACK CHASING AIMEE
PB (4,1)
1 Pollock STANEDYKES DIVA Grey brindle, well up to
size, but balanced, in full coat, good bone, keen expression, excellent topline
and tailset.
2
Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE BRITTLE Grey brindle, typical, balanced, good neck,
head and tailset, little short of head furnishings
3
Keeves & Bennett SEVEEK ONE MOMENT IN TIME WITH MAXIVEEK
JB (7,1)
1 Harrison & Formosa SPAWYCHE FOREVER AMBER AT
CARRADINE showy red/wheaten, liked her overall shape and keen expression, moved
with drive, lacking coat and furnishings, needs time to mature
2
Weedall CLAIREVONA VICTORIAN ICE dark red brindle, nice type with good reach of
neck, head and expression. Quite capable of showing her virtues but the rapport
was not always there with her handler
3
Smee OUDENARDE BELLE AMOUR
NB (3,0)
1 Braybrook CLOVERBROOK CUTE & CLEVER balanced
cream with dark points, in full coat, good dark eye, sound mover,
2
Hewitt VANAJAM TOUCH OF GOLD OF LITTLEACORN wheaten, nice dark eye and mascara,
level topline, moved out well
3
Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE BRITTLE
PGB (11,1)
1 Templeton LARCHLEA LOOKS LIKE HEAVEN dark grey
brindle, lovely shape, balance, eye, expression, just right for size, showy,
level topline. Moved and showed very well, considered for top honours
2
Osborn TWESLAM CHARLIE’S ANGEL dark grey brindle similar to 1, but smaller,
with good coat, nice dark eye and sound mover
3
White KERVAIG SKYE SAPPHIRE
LB (11,0)
A class full of quality.
1 Waugh ANDRUM CARLOTTA CC Grey brindle of
excellent type, balanced, lovely head, dark eye, feminine, correct expression,
perfect topline, full coat, one of the best movers of the day in both
directions. In peak condition.
2
Firth & Jones CAIRNGOLD CHARCOAL RCC Dark brindle, typical, excelling in head,
balance, eye, coat, movement, maturing into a lovely Cairn
3
Osborn TWESLAM DOTCOM
OB (4,1)
1 Phillips SRACHELLE JUST DAISY AT JAEVA Dark
brindle of correct size, balanced, lovely dark eye, keen expression moved well
but found the heat troublesome
2 Dolan ROSSARDEN GLENMOIRA dark grey, short of
coat, heavier than 1 and not quite the expression, moved ok but lacked sparkle
3
Short GLENCHESS WILD ECHO
Richard A Rumens (Judge)
